Is there an minimum age requirement for teams? Our children are 9 & 11 and are experienced riding single track and we are considering coming. If they are OK to ride, does an adult have to be on a team with them or could they do it as a team of 2? We would be on the course as well either riding single or as another team. Thanks
That's a good question. I don't think I've heard of kids that young doing an endurance event. We will have to check with NB Velo. We will post an answer here as soon as we find out.
The event is not set up for kids. The course is fairly long - maybe 35 min for the faster riders - and there will be few course marshals on the loop. That means there will be few adults apart from other riders for long stretches. Also, while the course will be well marked, there will not be marshals at all of the junctions that might lead off course. A kids race is normally a much shorter loop which allows more supervision. If there is sufficient demand, we would consider putting on a specific kids event in the future, but that is not possible this year.
With that said, we would like to encourage young riders in the sport, and if you as parents are willing to allow your kids to participate, recognizing these issues, then we would allow it. We are also trusting your judgment that they have sufficient skills to complete the course, and to move out of the way of faster riders who will pass them. They must ride as part of a team. It is probably best if they ride as a team of 2 themselves.
Hey, I am planning on travelling to New Brunswick in June to visit family. I grew up there. Any idea of the date for the 2012 event? I would like to time it to be there for this. Thanks Andy
